この線の線名にもなっている大船渡の市街地に位置する大船渡駅。大船渡駅の駅舎は平屋の木造建築で、広い待合室の中にはストーブが据え置かれていました（震災前待合室画像）。が、津波被害により今は土台を残すのみとなっています。その駅舎跡やホームは立入禁止。駅入口にあった水飲み場などにロープが張られていました。
気仙沼寄りホームの先にはおびただしい量の瓦礫が積み上げられ、重機やダンプがうなり声をあげながらそれに取り付いています。駅前広場がこのダンプの転回場となっており、トランシーバーを手にした運転手の運転するダンプがひっきりなしに出入りしていました。

甚大な被害を受けた大船渡駅と細浦駅との間に挟まれた下船渡駅。目の前は漁港で、しかもさほど標高がなかったにもかかわらず、幸い津波による損壊を免れました。この下船渡駅の駅舎は小ぶりな木造建築です。中は落ち着いた雰囲気だったのですが、現在は入口と窓が板で塞がれています（震災前の駅舎内改札口付近画像）。
駅前の県道をしばらく進むと沿岸部を結ぶ国道。その手前には「津波浸水想定区域ここまで」と書かれた巨大な表示板がありました。

震災前と全く変わってしまった駅前の風景。ここに来たことがあるはずなのに初めて見るような景色。かつて海は駅から民家の先にほんの少し見えるだけでした。が、津波が集落を押し流してしまったため、今は否が応にも海が目に飛び込んできます。振り向けば、駅舎は、今、土台が残るのみ。その前にはなぜか郵便ポストが一つ。その裏手の階段を昇ってホームに出たら、見覚えのある木造の待合所が立っていました。見た感じでは、とくに変わった様子はないのですが、しかし、壁には応急危険度判定結果「要注意」の貼り紙。ふとホーム下を見ると、津波でさらわれたのか赤錆びたレールが途中で切れていました。

陸前高田市の東端に位置する小友駅。広めの事務室をもつ木造駅舎に２面２線のホームを擁す駅でした。駅前の道には広田と陸前高田を結ぶ路線バスが入ってきて、駅舎の前で器用にＵターンしていました。海まで１ｋｍ以上離れ、周囲は山と山との谷間に広がるのどかな農村風景。しかし、その谷間に東西両方から津波が流入してきてぶつかり合い、この駅に甚大な被害を与えたのでした。
